A colourful start to the evening

The programme opened at 4:30 pm with the traditional lighting of the lamp, marking the formal beginning of the celebration.

From there, the evening moved into a continuous series of performances featuring local artists and community groups.

Performers included Antara, Devansh, Utparna, Varnika, Jazwin, Rajandeep, Komal, Mihir and Jessica, alongside several organised cultural and dance presentations.

The schedule also included yoga, Taal’s Shiva dance, Sanskriti dance, Bharatanatyam, AIDA, Ayfaj and Nartikas.

The variety of performances gave the event a broad cultural character and ensured there was something for audiences of different ages and interests.

Games kept the audience involved

One of the features of Megh Utsav was the way the organisers mixed performances with audience participation.

Six different games were included throughout the programme, helping keep the atmosphere lively and interactive.

Rather than being limited to a stage show, the event encouraged people in attendance to become part of the evening.

That community interaction added to the relaxed and celebratory atmosphere at Mt Albert War Memorial.

A platform for local performers

Megh Utsav also provided an important stage for local talent.

Community events often play a valuable role in giving young performers and emerging artists opportunities to perform in front of a live audience.

The event’s programme reflected that approach, with several individual performers sharing the stage alongside established cultural groups.

For many families, these occasions are also an opportunity to encourage children and younger generations to remain connected with music, dance and cultural traditions.

The strong focus on local participation helped give Megh Utsav its community character.

Sponsors and supporters recognised

The event was powered by NZ Mobile Mortgages & Insurance and supported by a number of businesses and organisations.

Sponsors associated with the event included Sehion Tours & Travels, Ankur Patel, Daat Insurance, Visa House, Conifer Grove Hair & Beauty Salon, All Sale and Mystic Jewels.

The involvement of local businesses played an important role in helping Mystic Events deliver Megh Utsav as a free community event.

Community events require substantial behind-the-scenes support, from venue arrangements and production to promotion, performances and logistics.

Business sponsorship allows organisers to create accessible events while maintaining a high-quality programme.

Community organisations come together

Megh Utsav also received support from several community organisations and partners.

Invited guests and community representatives included Ella Kumar, Jyoti Parasher from Sakhi Group, Kashikaji from Women’s Era, Neelu Toare from Hindu Foundation New Zealand and Nivedita Vij from Muskaan Trust.

Community partners included organisations such as Event Bangers, Women’s Era, Sakhi, HUMM, Namaste Bharat, Kiwi Times and Webfit News, along with other supporters.

Their participation highlighted the collaborative spirit behind the event.

It also demonstrated how businesses, community groups, media organisations and volunteers can work together to create positive local experiences.

Celebrating culture in multicultural Auckland

Events such as Megh Utsav contribute to Auckland’s growing multicultural identity.

They provide an opportunity for communities to celebrate their traditions while also sharing them with the wider public.

Music, classical dance, contemporary performance and community participation can all help create stronger connections across generations.

For migrant families in particular, cultural events can help younger people understand and experience traditions that remain important to their parents and grandparents.

At the same time, such events create an open and welcoming environment where people from different backgrounds can participate and learn from one another.

Mystic Events thanks the community

Following the event, Mystic Events thanked the community, sponsors, partners, volunteers and everyone who participated in making Megh Utsav a success.

The organisers described the celebration as a memorable day of culture, community and togetherness, acknowledging that the support and involvement of the wider community helped make the event possible.

The message following Megh Utsav was simple: the celebration succeeded because people came together.

With the event now concluded, the organisers have also indicated their intention to return again, with a message to the community to “see you again next year.”

A successful community celebration

Megh Utsav 2026 ultimately delivered what a strong community event should: opportunities for local performers, recognition for sponsors and volunteers, cultural celebration and a welcoming space for families to come together.

The four-hour programme at Mt Albert War Memorial demonstrated the amount of work that goes into organising a free public event and the value created when local businesses and community groups support such initiatives.

For Webfit News, being associated with Megh Utsav as a media partner was an opportunity to support and amplify an event contributing positively to Auckland’s cultural and community landscape.

As Auckland continues to grow as one of New Zealand’s most diverse cities, community-led celebrations such as Megh Utsav remain an important part of keeping culture, connection and participation alive.
