Auckland’s Indian community marked Hindi Diwas with a lively evening of performances and recognition for young learners. The High Commission of India, Wellington and the Consulate General of India, Auckland, partnered with Bharat Darshan, NZICA, and IAMNZ to host the celebration.

Children presented songs, dance, and poetry in Hindi. A video message from High Commissioner Neeta Bhushan was screened for attendees. Dr Madan Mohan Sethi, Consul General of India in Auckland, was Chief Guest and presented medals and certificates to students for their dedication to Hindi.

Several community leaders attended, including NZICA President Veer Khar. Also present were Mr Rakesh, President of the Uttar Pradesh Association, and Ms Nisha, General Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Association. The program featured a special recitation of “Batohiya” by Mr Bhrigu Bhaskar, President of Bihar Jharkhand Sabha Australia and New Zealand, who was accompanied by his wife, Ms Pallavi Sinha.

Hindi Diwas is observed each September to honour the adoption of Hindi in the Devanagari script by India’s Constituent Assembly in 1949. Organisers said the Auckland event aimed to encourage language learning among Kiwi Indian youth and to recognise the support of local associations and families.
