How winners are decided

Local elections in Auckland use the First Past the Post voting system. You simply tick the names of the candidates you want to see elected. You get the same number of votes as there are positions available. For example, if three seats are open, you can choose up to three candidates. The candidates with the highest number of votes are elected.

Why your vote matters

Local elections decide on issues that affect everyday life including transport, housing, libraries, parks and more. Every single vote helps shape the future of your community. Make sure you take part and encourage your friends and family to do the same.
