A Timaru man has been fined $10,000 for selling 40 vehicles over three years while he was banned from trading. The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) said this is his second conviction for unlawful motor vehicle trading after an earlier five-year ban in 2021.

Use the Motor Vehicle Traders Register. Search the business name and the person’s name. - Ask for a proper sale agreement and receipt

What MBIE wants the public to do
If you suspect illegal car trading, report it to MBIE. Repeated unlawful trading harms buyers and honest dealers. Always check the register before you pay.
